Kohjinsha SR8 series has DVD optical drive

Kohjinsha_sr8Kohjinsha has recently welcomed another convertible to its ever-expanding 7-inch UMPC series. The new SR8 line-up has the same processing power as the SH8 units (800MHz Intel A110) but features a new set of buttons flanking the WSVGA touchscreen and a built-in DVD multi drive.

Despite their absurd names, the SR8KP06A/F and SR8WP06A/F are actually quite revolutionary in that they’re the first UMPCs ever to include an optical drive. Most users who have migrated to UMPCs and other handtops may already be accustomed to not having an ODD at their disposal, but its inclusion could be appealing to those who’ve been hesitant to adopt the ultra-portables because of its omission.

Kohjinsha has come such a long way from its original SA series (read my less-than-flattering full review) that I think it’s time for me to give them a second chance.
