Unlocked Dell Streak delayed until January, shipping with Android 1.6 instead of 2.2

Streak-unlocked-1.6 Although this was previously acknowledged as an error (screenshot below), it appears that 16GB unlocked black Dell Streaks purchased from are now officially shipping with Android 1.6 instead of 2.2 as was originally promised.

The Android 2.2 update is available over the air after the phone is powered on for the first time, which is what those who already received unlocked units with 1.6 have confirmed, but that doesn't make up for quietly changing something to reflect what was supposedly a mistake just a few days ago.

Oddly, the 16GB black device seems to be the only configuration of the unlocked Streak affected by OS mix-up, as the 32GB black and 16GB/32GB red unlocked Streaks are still listed as shipping with Froyo preloaded.

Even more troubling is that the estimated ship date for all unlocked units is now January 2, 2011.

So to recap, the 16GB unlocked Dell Streak that was supposed to ship on December 8th with Froyo is now shipping on January 2nd of next year with Donut.

Oh dear.
