Grand Theft Auto 3 coming to dual core Android and iOS

gta3 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

GTA is a very popular game series. It really had something going for it back in the day, before it became that boring wannabe-realistic pile of brown stuff they call GTA 4. It was the signature game series for the PSP for years, and even though there is already a GTA game on mobile devices in form of Chinatown Wars (not to mention Gameloft’s ripoff series, Gangstar), it simply isn’t the same as those proper 3D-world games. Luckily we won’t have to wait much longer, as GTA 3 is heading to dual core Android and iOS devices very soon as part of the game’s 10th anniversary.

The compatibility list on Rockstar Games’ website is a bit confusing, listing the Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Asus EEE Pad and Acer Iconia as far as Android tablets go. I don’t know who wrote your list, Rockstar, but you just listed two specific devices and two devices lines. You’d think the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 7.7 would work fine as well if the 10.1 does, and they probably will. I also don’t see any reason why e.g. the Sony tablets or any of the other Tegra 2/Honeycomb tablets out there wouldn’t work. I guess that’s just the downside of having 14 trillion identical devices on the same OS; compatibility lists are either incomplete or come in form of 500 page hardcover books. The iOS list is much shorter and complete: iPad 2 and 4S. Aka the dual core brothers of iOS. Remember the last post I wrote where I said that Apple screwed users with an iPod touch that isn’t actually new and doesn’t have the A5? Well, here you have the consequences: the almighty iPod touch, Jobs’ gift to Game Boy lovers, is now officially outdated like a Nintendo 3DS.

No official release date, but 5 weeks from now is the official anniversary of GTA 3, so it wouldn’t surprise me if we’re downloading it then. This does seem to be the actual GTA 3 though, not Liberty City Stories (the PSP and later PS2 version), which means that there are potentially 4 more games to be released before we hit the GTA 4 era; Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.
