Samsung offering 5 years of updates for 2021+ phones

There’s really nothing amazingly new in phones and no compelling reason to upgrade these days other than end of support of your existing device. Samsung has taken the stance that if you’re with them, you’ll probably stick with them in the future, and is offering the longest pledged security support cycle of any manufacturer.

If you’re happy with your Samsung you got last year? You’re probably going to be happy with it until 2026 when their pledge to provide security updates ends.

One UI is listed as “up to four generations of One UI” but that could be nothing if the generation doesn’t change. I like the One UI but mostly it’s a launcher I use it to launch apps so this isn’t a particularly compelling selling point for me.

Looking at my still functioning beloved Note 8 makes me sad it didn’t make the cutoff… guess it’s rooting time.
