Google gives non-destructive fix for January Google Play System update impacted phones

In January a Play System update happened that seriously impacted many phones. There’s a fix for that. For those with an understanding of ADB the fix is below, for those without it click the source link below. For several hundred words detailing what the issue was that you already know click here.

  • “./adb uninstall com.google.android.media.swcodec”
  • “./adb uninstall com.google.android.media”

Do the above, reboot the phone, you should be good to go.

For the longer Google instructions, click here. You really should read this, don’t take some guy on the internet’s advice about deleting two files to fix a problem.

Should also be noted I did not have this problem, I have not tested the solution, I’m just pointing you to a Google page.
