Official Froyo update rollout for Dell Streak begins today

FroYo The day that all Dell Streak users (who aren't already running DJ_Steve's Froyo build) have been waiting for has finally arrived. The official Android 2.2 update for the Streak will be released today.

Unfortunately for most people, the only units getting served that bowl of Froyo today are those with no affiliation with a carrier. Unlocked Streaks are first in line because, according to Dell, "they do not have to go through the carrier approval process."

Even worse news for AT&T- and other carrier-tied Streak users is that this first phase of rollouts for unlocked units is happening gradually over the next few weeks. Locked units won't be seeing that beloved software update notification until later next month!

Don't believe it's true? Here's a screen cap to prove it:

This won't be received well, Dell, so get ready for a firestorm of comments across the internet.

I'll be sticking with DJ_Steve's build (now at version 1.3), maybe indefinitely, so let me know how the official update goes for all you unlocked Streakers out there. Everyone else? The wait continues.

Update: Best Buy Streaks will receive the update on December 3rd. This suggests that anyone with an AT&T Streak purchased from Dell.com should get the update then as well, but since Dell didn't say this directly, we'll have to wait and see.

[Direct2Dell] Thanks, Lis!
