HP Chromebook 11 charger officially recalled

Chromebook 11 side

First, Google suspended sales of the HP Chromebook 11 due to a faulty charger, and then a new charger appeared on the Google Play Store. Finally – more a month later, on December 17 – we have an official recall of the faulty charger.

According to reports on this matter, Google received nine reports of chargers overheating and melting, with even more reports of small personal burns and property damage. Obviously, this was no laughing matter, and I’m left wondering why it took so long for an official recall to be issued.

In any case, Google is taking ownership of the problem and will set people right. If you own an HP Chromebook 11, you can contact Google to get a free replacement charger at 866-628-1371. Going forward, all future Chromebook 11 units will also be shipped with the newer charger.
